ULTIMATUM
ULTIMATUM (ul-ti-ma-tum) n.
1. a final proposition.
2. one whose rejection will end negotiations and cause a definite action.
3. Choose this day who you will serve.
4. A metal band whose sound is a mixture of traditional heavy, power/speed/thrash metal and more modern grooves; brutal guitars, blazing leads, pounding drums, thundering bass and shrill, shrieking vocals. Ultimatum does not claim to follow any trends nor do they wish to do so. "Our interests have never been to be the fastest, or the heaviest, or even the most bizarre. We really dont care to be trendy. Rather we want to write good, heavy, memorable metal songs with lyrics that will challenge the listener." -vocalist, Scott Waters.

Hi!
I will try to post articles to promote talented bands and guitar player around. (I will post a blog as soon as I have something on hand btw)
Today, I invite you to discover a very talented French guitar player who is Victor Lafuente. Lafuente has just released his album tilted "Six Strings For One Heart".
This album is VERY melodic and has a lot of groove! Check it out!

Below is a presentation of Victor Lafuente's album:
Feeling, melody, groove, technique, emotions… If these terms are for you synonymous with music, then come and discover the first album of Victor Lafuente, through which he combines these various terms with guitar sauce. Between instrumental control and melody detail, this talented guitarist develops a varied music inspired by a great number of styles (rock'n'roll, metal, funk, blues, jazz, classical…) and seeks a certain balance between electric and acoustic universes. The followers of this musical register will recognize various influences such as Satriani, Vai, Shan Lane or Santana, whereas the neophytes can only appreciate the accessibility and the melodicity of his musical purpose. As the album title says, with "Six Strings For One Heart", Victor exposes his emotional approach of the guitar and the music to deliver 12 titles "made At home". Don't miss this beautiful discovery, tighten the ear, your heart will thank you…
1- Délirium Tremens This opening piece, with a fusion/funk/métal style, came to me after "having tripped" one evening. It mixes a central "summer" theme with soft passages. On the chorus, the central tapping/slide section was hard to play (on telecaster, not easy this kind of acrobatics, but the color precedes !), the following jazzy chorus was very enjoying to record… All that is intersected with metal breaks where Adrien breaks out on drums… I love this piece !
2- For One Heart To qualify the style of this piece, the "progrockclassicotrashbluesy" term appears to be the most good one… The first melodic theme is followed of a "world music" section and a duet of classical guitars whose composition gave me much pleasure. After, I introduced a metal section with an oriental coloration with a chorus which, like one says, "sends salce". For the end, a duet banjo/guitare on a "roots" blues as I like them…
3- Mister Groove The title of this piece came to me after having programmed the track of drums for the pre-production. The drums were already straightforwardly well on the feeling of a true drumer. From that, Adrien made the remainder with his own playing style… And that groove ! Fusion, still fusion and always fusion…
4- Seize Saisons Sixteen seasons: it is exactly the time I needed to compose and finalize this piece. It's my first true composition on classical guitar. In fact, it's the time I needed to understand how to record a good take with a classical guitar… Really hard, lololol.
5- Six Strings The humorous wink of the album… a "swing" accompaniment with classical arpeggios doubled with piano. The arpeggios section is played in sweeping (a torture for the fingers and a martyrdom for the endurance)… The more enjoying to record ! This small entertainment could be the subject of a continuation in a forthcoming album: to be continued…
6- Perfect Day The starting idea of this piece was to express my musical perception of the perfect day. As the moments follow and are never the same, this piece approaches various musical styles : theme doubled with voice, little whawha, techno & psyché section… In the medium, a latin section with beautiful percussions and a nice theme : A really fullness day J... Certainly one af my favorites pieces. Have a good day !
7- Hommage (to Shawn Lane) This is my personal homage to real master of guitar and music : Shawn Lane. His music is one of my principal influences. Although the quality of my playing is still far from his one, I hope that you'll find there some winks with the style of the Master Lane. Rest in peace.
8- Bailadora Still a piece with the classical guitar. This one was inspired to me by my wife. Its composition was rather fast : two hours for the structure and two hours more for the expression… Ah, love, big driver of inspiration ! This piece has a spanish color (my origins are not disavowed).
9- Positivinfluence This piece is dedicated to David, who likes "fatty " riffs. You can find there various musical influences with the guitaristic phrasing : Satriani, Vai, Lane…
10- Aquatic Visions This piece was inspired to me when I was living at the seaside, during two years : same time that I also composed the first versions of Mister Groove and Tutti Frutti. It is a kind of "ambient rock". The guitars and the basses are in open tuning (D A D F A D). I also use the EBOW on the central theme… A piece to travel!
11- Tutti Frutti In this piece, you can also find a good diversity of styles : rock, latino, reggae… A big thank to Gérard for his superb synth solo with the "Coréa" spirit, on a syncopated Latin accompaniment. Un wonderfull piece !
12- Serial Thanks This final piece is a pretext to thank some people having taken part directly or indirectly in the realization for this album. On an "lounge jazz" ambiance, it gives the hand to a final exchange between guitar and piano on jazzy harmonies. Thanks to Laurence for her voice.
